Richmond BJJ Academy offers Self-Defense & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for 5-11 year olds. We teach BJJ, Judo, wrestling, and self-defense, as well as bully-proofing techniques.
BJJ FOR CHILDREN teaches self-defense and bully-proofing, self-confidence, and character development, provides a physical outlet with discipline and cooperation with other children, and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
A bully uses intimidation or domination to coerce another kid to do what the bully wants. Bullies use physical, verbal, and emotional means of intimidation to establish a perceived superiority over another child. Our methods teach kids to prevent and deal with physical, verbal, and emotional bullying by using real tactics. These tactics give your child the self-confidence and physical presence needed to prevent bullying, and the physical skills to defend him/herself if there was a physical altercation. No child should be without these skills! We train kids with options so there doesn’t have to be a physical altercation, but we also give them the techniques to handle the physicality of others.
Instead of relying on striking and violence like others martial arts programs do, we teach defensive techniques and concepts to diffuse confrontations, neutralize threats, and control the situation until help arrives.
- We give your children confidence, which means bullies will be less-likely to target your child.
- We increase your child’s awareness of different kinds of bullying and the best approach for each kind.
- We make sure your children are prepared so when common situations arise, they have answers.
We teach with games and drills that engage the children and help them have fun. That’s important to us because teaching self-defense is serious, but we don’t want children to spend their afternoon in “serious” classes that scare them about strangers and bullies.
We’ve created a program where kids learn great skills, and have fun doing it! They’ll want to keep coming back for more! We keep the kids engaged through partner drills, games that emphasize technique and movement, and safe discussions that prepare them for real-life situations.
And we let the parents participate! We’d love for you to take the classes with your children! Come in and learn some BJJ with your child, and be a part of the process of their learning BJJ self-defense and bully-proofing.
